Competitive shooting is experiencing a surge in popularity. It is one of the few sports where a 72 year old grandpa and his 10 year old grand daughter can compete together in. Some are nervous of the idea of children using “powerful” weapons- but with some basic education kids can enjoy shooting sports extremely safely. Any sport can be dangerous but popular sports such as cheerleading, football and soccer have far more injuries. I cannot find any record of a major injury or death in a sanctioned gun competition. These matches are run by professionals who are dogmatic about safety rules and procedures.

This was still accomplished with force- societies that valued reason developed better weapons and defenses and lived and prospered longer. The societies with the better weapons and stronger armies became the dominant forces and spread their ideals through conquest. These societies became more peaceful over time as prosperity increased.Read More
The murder/suicide involving NFL linebacker Jovan Belcher has again brought up the debate about guns and “gun culture.”
Bob Costas quoting columnists Jason Whitlock during halftime of Football Night in America:
“Our current gun culture, Whitlock wrote, ensures that more and more of domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy… and at more convenience store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will lead more teenaged boys bloody and dead. Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it….“What I believe is, if (Belcher) didn’t possess/own a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.”Read More
